A closer look at the hit game
The third title in the Modern Warfare series, and the eighth in the best-selling Call of Duty franchise generally, made a huge impact as expected when it hit UK retail on November 8th, going straight to number one in the charts.
Developed by Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer games, the first-person shooter immediately follows the events of Modern Warfare 2, as the Russian Federation continues its invasion of the US and makes new inroads into Europe. Gamers become members of various special forces units, armed with advanced weaponry as they play through a series of missions in single-player, changing perspectives as the story progresses.
Modern Warfare 3 sees the introduction of a new cooperative ‘Survival’ mode, in which one or two players take on increasingly hard waves of enemies. Every online level will be available in this form. The much-anticipated multiplayer mode sees a revamped killstreak reward system as well as redesigned ranking and unlocks system.
The developers claim that they have removed annoyances that enable players to rely less on skill and more on perks.
“Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is by far the most epic Call of Duty experience yet. The teams at Infinity Ward and Sledgehammer Games have worked tirelessly to create for the Call of Duty player a scale that is unimaginable with a level of polish and creativity that will push the genre forward,” said Eric Hirshberg, Activision CEO. “Modern Warfare 3 will raise the bar for this already incredible franchise.”

Activision Blizzard creative strategist Rob Bowling told sister magazine MCV: “Our audience is very much lined up for the next iteration, and I think that’s because we are accessible as developers and the fans know that they have that relationship with us. They can trust that their feedback has been important to us, so they’re excited to see something that they’ve have had an ability to shape.”
