Updated Advanced Security Practitioner exam detailed

New CompTIA exam aims to help governments battle cyber threats

Trade body CompTIA has unveiled a new IT exam to help governments and firms defend themselves and fight back against threats from cyber crime groups.

The new version of the CompTIA Advanced Security Practitioner exam is included in US Department of Defence guidance for training government employees and other corporations from Dell to HP.

The hands-on test will simulate real-world security scenarios and has been updated to help security teams combat rising threats from malware and organised cyber crime.

“The roll call of cyber attacks continues to grow and more are surely on the way,” said Todd Thibodeaux, president and CEO of CompTIA.

“To help combat the growing threat of malware, individual hackers and organised hacking groups, we’ve updated the CASP exam to address the latest threats and to better explore the troubleshooting processes security professionals rely on to keep data, devices and networks secure.”

The CASP certification exam covers enterprise security, risk management, incident response, research and analysis, integration of computing, communications and business disciplines, and technical integration of enterprise components.

CASP is intended for IT professionals with at least 10 years’ experience in IT administration and five years technical security experience in roles such as information security analyst, security architect, cybersecurity risk manager and cybersecurity risk analyst.
