Long-awaited iOS tablet version of Microsoft’s productivity suite includes Excel, Word and PowerPoint

Microsoft Office for iPad released, Office Mobile made free

Microsoft has released Office for iPad, for free.

The long-awaited iOS tablet version of Microsoft’s productivity suite includes Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

While the app can be downloaded for free, a subscription to Microsoft’s cloud-based Office 365 is required to edit documents.

The subscription to Office 365 allows users to install full copies of Office for iPad on up to five tablets, in additional to the five PCs and Macs covered by the standard desktop-based programme.

Alongside the release of Office for iPad, Office Mobile for iPhone and Android phones has also been made free.

“Every day we hear from you how important it is to have a great productivity experience on all the devices you use,” stated Microsoft in the blog post announcing the release.

“We take that very seriously – we know that means you want the authentic experience of Office, made right for the device you’re using.

“This isn’t simply Office on another device. We thought a lot about what people want to do when they’re on their tablet, iPad functionality, and touch-first when we were building Office for iPad.

“We reimagined Office on the iPad, while retaining what people love about Office. We hope you’ll be as pleased with the results as we are.”
