An ambitious startup – CastAR – has released a new video of its wearable Augmented Reality (AR) glasses – a direct rival to Microsoft’s recently announced HoloLens device.
The premise of CastAR is similar to the HoloLens: wear the tech glasses and virtual objects will appear to emerge in the real world. You can have a virtual to-do list in front of you, for example, or a 3D model of a building if you’re a designer, or you could use it to play games.
CastAR already generated $1 million in funding on Kickstarter back in November 2013, and has begun shipping devices to customers.
The basic device starts at $189 but can go into the thousands of pounds for higher-end options.
The video below outlines the HoloLens rival, but the makers of the device admit that it "uses CG [computer graphics] for a higher production value," reports Mashable.
There is no set release date for Microsoft’s HoloLens just yet.
