Another reduction in license keys means from February Technet subscribers will get just three for Windows and Office.

Microsoft gets stingy with Technet

Microsoft has further reduced the number of product activation keys as part of the popular Technet Professional subscription package.

In September 2010 Microsoft stealthily reduced the number of licence keys as part of the Technet Standard and Technet Professional packages, down from 10 product keys to five for the Professional version and two for the Standard.

Now it seems that from February, subscribers to Technet Professional will get just three keys each for Windows and Office.

The official line has always been that the keys are for software development and testing and not to be used for clients but those looking for a good deal have often turned to the £159 Technet Standard to lighten the load, rather than turn to piracy.

Cash strapped Microsoft now has other ideas.
