Making customers aware of cyber threats ‘is like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted’ – Brigantia

Dealer services group Brigantia has commented on the importance of cyber security as it embarks on a new roadshow.

Sales manager Angus Shaw (pictured) said: "Many channel players are extolling the importance of making their business end user clients/employees more aware of cyber threats.

"There is no doubt that this is a good idea but the reality is that this in many cases will be like closing the stable door after the horse has bolted. Business owners must protect their businesses more by making sure they have got the most up to date cyber protection possible in place."

Last week, on July 27th, Brigantia held the first of eight nationwide Brigantia Cybersecurity Breakfast Seminars for its reseller and MSP partners, together with local businesses and IT managers.

Held at the Park Plaza Hotel in Leeds, delegates had the opportunity to network with Brigantia’s cybersecurity taskforce service providers.

The keynote presentation was given by Jack Case from Heimdal Security, who spoke about flaws in traditional antivirus and firewall solutions.

At the end of the event many of those presented had decided to either install an extra layer of endpoint cybersecurity protection, or to trial it so as to protect their businesses against cyber threats.

Shaw added: "Heimdal Security is a unique traffic-based PC and server protection product, combined with an enterprise scale patching system. Antivirus looks for files and actions, whereas Heimdal Security looks at traffic.

"Therefore, Heimdal and antivirus products work independently but in tandem. Heimdal Security prevents hackers from taking data from machines and out of networks."

Brigantia will now move on to Manchester, with the second seminar being held at the Mercure Manchester Piccadilly Hotel. It will have presentations from the likes of Bitdefender and Nuro, as well as info from LOGICnow, Passportal and more.

The schedule is as follows:

  • Manchester – August 24th
  • Chelmsford – September 21st
  • Belfast – October 12th
  • London – November 10th
  • Birmingham – December 8th
  • Cardiff – January 18th
  • Bristol – January 19th
