Intel’s price cuts, while extensive, aren’t as generous as analysts predicted, reports tech site The Register. The move does, however, confirm an aggressive pricing plan for the chip maker.
The 50 per cent reductions on the four-core, 2.4GHz Core 2 Quad Q6600, mean that that the price is now just $266, which is the existing price for the new 2.66 GHz Q6700.
Other cuts include 15 per cent off the Core 2 Duo E4400, a four per cent reduction on the Pentium E2140’s from $74 to $71 and 20 per cent off the Celeron M 520 and 530, which now are priced at $86 and $107, respectively.
"Intel also has additions to its price list in the form of 1.86GHz Celeron M 540 at $134 and the 2GHz Core 2 Duo E4500 at $133.The biggest addition was the 1333MHz FSB Core 2 Duo E6x50 line," said The Register. "This series is priced below 1066MHz FSB Core 2 Duo E6x00 chips, suggesting Intel wants to drive the rapid adoption of these chips, allowing it to phase out the older models quickly."
