Vendor remains as market leader as number two, Dell's shipments slips further

HP retains crown

HP has retained its position as the number one PC vendor in the world, with Lenovo, Acer and Toshiba continuing to rapidly catch up with number two Dell.

HP’s shipment figure, which accounted for 19.3 per cent of the market, was 11.3 million units. Dell however saw its share of overall shipments slip by five per cent to 9.5 million.

"Mobile PC demand remained strong, while Vista’s impact on consumer demand is considered to have been minimal," said research firm Gartner in a press release. "HP grew faster than the worldwide market average growth rate for the ninth quarter in a row. HP showed steady growth across all regions and platforms."

Gartner predicted that overall HP’s worldwide market share was 18.2 per cent, while Dell had 15 per cent in second place.
