Computer giant shows off traditional device in favour of rumoured smartwatch

Apple reveals iPocket watch

Forget the iPhone 6 and the rumoured iWatch – Apple has instead unveiled a limited edition traditional pocket watch.

The iPocket watch features mechanical movement, a simple design and a bronze case that protects the clock face. It measures 1.4cm thick, has a diameter of 4.6cm and a 35cm chain length.

Unlike the heavily rumoured iWatch smartwatch, which was said to feature wireless charging and solar powered technology, this retro-style device has no modern technology and therefore doesn’t need recharging.

The iPocket comes after Apple CEO Time Cook confirmed Apple would launch several new product categories in 2014. It launches at the end of April and will cost £400.1.

He also hinted the firm would launch its own TV, but that this would also feature retro styling rather than smart TV technology.

Tim Clock added: "This will be the gold standard of pocket watches. In an age where mobile products are becoming smaller and there is focusing on enhancing technology, our entry into a more traditional category shows how we’re continuing to innovate."

Apple says it will be targeting ‘gentlemen’ with the device – both consumers and enterprise customers.

More information can be found on the iPocket watch website.
