Google’s upcoming Android L operating system will offer greater functionality between smartphone and Chromebook.
For example, a user’s smartphone will be able to unlock their Chromebook, while a smartwatch will be able to unlock the phone.
If the user receives a call or text, or if their phone’s battery is running low, they will be notified on their Chromebook. Plus, some Android apps will be able to run in Chrome OS, reports Arstechnica.
"Users almost always have a smartphone with them, including when they are using a Chromebook," said Google’s Sundar Pichai. "We want to increasingly connect those experiences together so they have a seamless experience across their devices."

The Android L OS is set to launch this autumn, and shares some similarities with Apple’s iOS 8 / OS X Yosemite, which are due to arrive at around the same time.
For example, AirDrop will be able to move files between iOS devices and Macs, ‘Handoff’ can send emails, web pages and files from iCloud-enabled applications on iOS to their counterparts in OS X (or vice-versa). Users can receive texts alongside iMessages in the Messages app, and they can make and receive phone calls from their Mac if their phone is in another room.
