Lenovo has said that it will not be using Vista to power the 2008 Olympic Games and will instead be using XP to run computer systems at the event.
The Chinese vendor, who was chosen by Chinese authorities as the official technology supplier for the 2008 Bejing Olympics said the decision has been motivated by the relative instability of Microsoft’s new operating system.
"Olympic Games aren’t a place to try new technologies due to the size and importance of the event," said Lenovo’s chairman, Yang Yuanqing. "If it’s not stable, it could have some problems."
However, Window’s Vista isn’t the only recent technological innovation to be discarded because of potential instability. The Olympic’s core computer network will be wired with security concerns and potential loss of connect cited as the main reasons for avoiding the use of wireless networking said Lenovo’s director of Olympic technology and sponsorship, Leon Xie speaking to the press.
