Adata SH14 shockproof hard drive

Is yours hard enough?

Ruggedness is vital for external hard drives that carry important data on-the-go

Time for hard drives to toughen up

Distributor VIP has announced it’s stocking a new shockproof external USB hard drive from Adata.

The SH14 follows on from the industry-acclaimed waterproof and shockproof SH93 portable hard drive, taking the best elements of that and aiming to improve on them.

It’s targeted at on-the-go PC users who need reliable and robust hard drives to match their active lifestyles. It is military grade shockproof and water resistant to IPX4 class – so users don’t need to worry about losing data due to careless knocks or drinks spillages.

The exterior is made from a silicone material with smooth surface texture and the hard drive comes in two colours – ‘passion red’ and ‘serene black’. It’s available in three capacities – 500GB, 750GB and 1TB.

Adata says that in performance terms, the SH14 is comparable to a 2.5-inch 5,400 RPM hard drive. It uses the new generation USB 3.0 interface and can achieve transfer rates of up to 109MB/s, which is up to three times faster than USB 2.0 for backing up files. Naturally it is backwards compatible with USB 2.0 devices too.
